Rami Hakim

Rami is essentially synonymous with warmth and positivity, so much so that he’s often seen as naive and even a tad immature, but those close to Rami know his positivity isn’t naivety, it’s how he survives. Rami considers his life actually quite good, being blessed with a good family life, having a wonderful support system, and having the means to succeed and hold down a successful career, but something is always quietly nagging at him in the back of his head. Something is always telling him that he’s replaceable and forgettable.

Being the middle sibling of 5, Rami grew up used to being forgotten or overlooked. Never intentionally, of course, but that somehow made things worse. If someone forgot him or ignored him to be mean, it was their fault, but if they did it by accident, it was his. If he was doing something right, he wouldn’t have been forgotten, or so he believes. Rami’s bright and bubbly personality is true to who he is, but it often steps into overcompensation-territory, and he has a tendency to overcommit and overpromise himself. At his core, he has a giving, compassionate heart, and in his fear of being forgotten by others, often forgets to take care of himself.

Relationships

Familial
Rami is the middle sibling of 5, having an older brother and sister, two younger brothers. He gets along better with his younger siblings, but is in good standing with everyone. He has a fairly healthy relationship with his parents, and he goes home for holidays as often as he can. He’s a favorite at bigger family gatherings since he has a knack for keeping the younger kids entertained.

Romantic
He and Gen have been dating since early/mid high school, having met in their biology class. Rami was enamored with Gen’s affinity for death/dissection, and Gen was just surprised someone even looked in her direction, let alone someone as charming and handsome as Rami. He fell in love at first sight and relentlessly pursued Gen until he convinced her he was being serious. Their relationship hasn’t always been perfect, with a handful of small hiccups in their earlier years, usually from them figuring out how to navigate a relationship in college, but they’ve always found their way back to each other. They’re essentially married and everyone considers them to be. They’re a classic sun-moon relationship where Gen has a tendency to be a little cold and cynical and Rami can sometimes have his head in the clouds and be a bit naive. Gen grounds Rami, and Rami softens Gen. They compliment each other nicely and have evolved into an unstoppable power couple.

Platonic
Rami can make friends with just about anyone he meets and he has an incredibly rich social life, so sometimes it’s hard to pin him down. His favorite casual friend activity is getting coffee, so he’s even befriended the local baristas. His best friend is Emory, having known each other since elementary school from living on the same street. The two are inseparable and it’s unlikely to talk about one without mentioning the other. They easily rile each other up, both being very animated and having a tendency to deal in extremes, so when they were younger, they got into trouble together quite a bit. Growing up, many people said Emory was a bad influence on Rami, which only made him double-down and befriend them harder, knowing Emory was good for him because they gave him confidence and simply because he enjoyed being with them. Emory is one of the very few people he’s emotionally vulnerable with, often even showing Emory more vulnerability than Gen, so Emory is extremely protective of Rami and he often refers to them as his “bulldog”. After dating for a while, Gen introduced him to Danny, who he later became friends with in college after they had freshman orientation together, later deciding to become roommates. Rami and Danny have a tendency to butt heads, with Rami sometimes being overwhelmingly positive and Danny being pretty negative and curmudgeonly, but they’d do anything for each other. They often point out being friends out of convenience but it doesn’t really bother either of them. They’ve both been through so much together, if either didn’t want to be friends anymore there were plenty of opportunities to leave, and neither have, so that speaks volumes to both of them. Rami jokes about keeping Danny around because he can cook, and Danny jokes about keeping Rami around for hugs.

Exhibition
Stout and sturdy frame, with a short, spade-tipped tail. A bit top-heavy and quadrupedal, it prefers to ambulate on all fours but can stand on its hind legs if threatened. It has three white, ceramic masks surrounding its head, all with different expressions. Black horns protrude from behind the middle mask and dusty red eyes can be seen behind holes in the mask. The masks on the side of its head have closed eyes, and their expressions are not easily discernible. These masks predominantly serve to protect the head, where its Body is located. Aside from the masks, the rest of its Exhibition is predominantly black. It's akin to processed leather in texture, though slightly clammy to the touch, and small reptile-like scales can be seen up close. It oscillates between smelling like cinnamon and cayenne pepper.
